The Mortal Instruments Read-A-Long Day 6 ~ Chapter 6 Recap and Meet Magnus

Hello there! Welcome to the sixth stop on this tour (my first blog tour ever, actually). We are celebrating the release of the City of Bones movie this month by recapping a chapter a day and sharing some fun stuff on each participating blog!

The first thing I'll give you is my Chapter Six Recap

This chapter is a nice blend of world-building and action. Just as the title suggests, this is when Clary and Jace return to her house to look around and end up finding and battling a Forsaken that was waiting for them. Clary and we readers are introduced to essential pieces of the Shadowhunter world, like when glamour is used. There are new terms: stele, iratze, parabatai, sensor, Forsaken. A few bits of Jace’s history revealed, and Madame Dorothea makes an unexpected appearance towards the end of the chapter.

I hope fight scene with the Forsaken is in the movie, and I hope it’s done well. It’s one of the parts where I thought “that is going to look so cool on screen!”

My Favorite Quote (this was pretty easy to choose)
"You guessed? You must have been pretty sure, considering you could have killed me."
He pressed a button in the wall, and the elevator lurched into action with a vibrating groan that she felt all through the bones in her feet."I was ninety percent sure."
"I see," Clary said.
There must have been something in her voice, because he turned to look at her. Her hand cracked across his face, a slap that rocked him on his heels. He put his hand to his cheek, more in surprise than in pain. "What the hell was that for?"
"The other ten percent," she said, and they rode the rest of the way down to the street in silence."

Now, I am glad to welcome the High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane, to this stop of the tour

“Magnus, standing by the door, snapped his fingers impatiently. "Move it along, teenagers. The only person who gets to canoodle in my bedroom is my magnificent self."
"Canoodle?" repeated Clary, never having heard the word before.
"Magnificent?" repeated Jace, who was just being nasty. Magnus growled. The growl sounded like "Get out.”
― Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

I am a huge fan of Magnus. I don't know what this series would be without his humor and his his odd little quirks. He just adds a special and unique feel to the books. Also, have you seen the movie posters with him on it. Doesn't the Godfrey Gao look absolutely perfect for the role?

Here's a little info on the character
Magnus Bane is the High Warlock of Brooklyn. He loves to throw parties for both Downworlders and Shadowhunters alike.

Magnus is immortal, having maintained his appearance of a 19-year-old since the 16th century. He has access to magical powers that often manifest themselves as blue flames or sparks at his fingertips.
  • The name Magnus means 'Great' in Latin and was one of the first names used among Romans.
  • His surname Bane, would mean 'Glorious defender' in Slavic, however, the more appropriate meaning of Bane is 'Destruction'. If his whole name is translated, Magnus Bane would mean 'Great Destruction'.
  • He has a cat named Chairman Meow, (apparently a take on "Chairman Mao"), whom he threw the party for in City of Bones, for his birthday. He was said to be missing during the party, saying that he comes and goes. When Jace and Clary return to question him about Simon, Chairman Meow is back with him.
Honestly, I don't there's any way to realize how great a character Magnus is without reading the books he's in first. If you've read the series, you probably know what I mean. If you haven't read it, you are seriously missing out on him and other amazing characters.

Thank you for stopping by on this stop of the tour. What do you think of the sixth chapter and Magnus Bane? What is one of your favorite quotes from or about him?
