Sophomore Spotlight on . . . Sara B. Larson

In case you missed the intro with the description and main giveaway, this event is simply about checking in with 2014 debut authors who have at least one release in 2015 (AKA their sophomore year as an author).

Today's spotlight is on Sara B. Larson and her top ten reasons she loves being an author! Sara released her debut, Defy, and its sequel, Ignite in 2014. At the end of this year (as in December 29th), the third book, Endure, in the fantasy series releases! I'm really excited to find out how the series ends!

Enjoy Sara's top ten list!

Sara B. Larson is the author of the acclaimed YA fantasy novel Defy, and its sequels, Ignite and Endure. She can’t remember a time when she didn’t write books—although she now uses a computer instead of a Little Mermaid notebook. Sara lives in Utah with her husband and their three children. She writes in brief snippets throughout the day (while mourning the loss of nap time) and the quiet hours when most people are sleeping. Her husband claims she should have a degree in “the art of multitasking.” When she’s not mothering or writing, you can often find her at the gym repenting for her sugar addiction. You can find her at She is represented by Josh Adams of Adams Literary.

Top Ten Reasons I love being an Author (though not in any particular order)

1. I love when inspiration strikes – that moment of thrilling discovery when a new idea is forming.

2. It’s completely surreal (in the best way possible) to walk into a book store and see my books on their shelves.

3. It’s pretty fun when someone recognizes me because they loved my book(s).

4. I love the high of finishing a new book—that sense of accomplishment is incredible.

5. Research trips to exotic locations are pretty awesome. (I highly recommend writing books set in jungles!)

6. I love that moment when you’ve been stuck on a plot point forever and then everything suddenly all clicks into place. That relief and excitement Is one of the best feelings in the world!

7. Getting to invent new worlds is so much fun. I love that part of writing fantasy!

8. Interacting with fans and readers online is also a ton of fun—there are so many fantastic bloggers, readers, teachers, and librarians out there, and I love getting to know so many of them!

9. Getting to read other amazing authors’ books early is definitely one of my favorite parts of being published!

10. One of the absolute best parts of being an author are the letters, emails, and messages I get from readers who have loved and been touched by my books. Every time I get one it blows me away to realize that absolute strangers are reading and loving my stories. That is absolutely amazing and the ultimate dream come true.
Here's the description of Defy

Goodreads Description:
Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?
