S.F.D. Open Letter to Erin L. Schneider

Hello! It's time to share a fun mission the Sassy's Fangirl Debuts (hosted by Talina @ Sassy & Dangerous) have been working on: letters to debut authors! All of the agents are writing to different SFD authors today, so be sure to check out #SassyDebutAgents on Twitter to check out links for those posts. You can also go to my intro post for a list of participating bloggers. (If you aren't familiar with what Sassy's Fangirl Debuts is, you can check out the post to learn more about it as well.)

Hi Erin,

I hope you are doing well! We haven't talked much, but I've been keeping an eye out for news on your debut. The first thing that drew me to it was the genre. YA contemporary is my favorite and romance is always something I look out for in books, so that helped pull my attention to Summer of Sloane.

I've never been to Hawaii (maybe someday), and I'm excited to experience it through your book. I'm also excited to meet Sloane! It sounds like she has a lot of learning to do, which makes me love characters so much more. It makes them so much more relatable. I can learn from characters like Sloane. I can feel satisfied while reading when I see them grow.

Finn sounds great too! I know I don't know much about him as Sloane yet, but I love love LOVE it when a romance goes from a more casual thing to something bigger. It's fun! I'm looking forward to meeting him and seeing if he's as much of a rulebreaker as he sounds. (Hopefully he and Sloane have a lot of fun.☺)

Aside from reading your book next year, I'm hoping to get to talk to you more and to help spread the news about your debut. Less than seven months to go!

Happy reading,

Kaitlin @ Reading is My Treasure

P.S. I actually wrote this letter within a couple hours of returning from a trip to Seattle--my first time there, and hopefully not my last. I think it's cool that I'm writing to someone from a place I was just in. :D

P.P.S. Your Halloween-ified Twitter name and profile pic are awesome!

She’s a member of both the Pacific Northwest Writers Association and SCBWI, and is also co-founder of the YA Buccaneers

SUMMER OF SLOANE is her debut novel, out May 3, 2016 from Disney-Hyperion. Visit Erin online at Erin L Schneider or on Twitter: @ErinLSchneider1.

Goodreads Description:
Warm Hawaiian sun. Lazy beach days. Flirty texts with her boyfriend back in Seattle.

These are the things seventeen-year-old Sloane McIntyre pictured when she imagined the summer she’d be spending at her mom’s home in Hawaii with her twin brother, Penn. Instead, after learning an unthinkable secret about her boyfriend, Tyler, and best friend, Mick, all she has is a fractured hand and a completely shattered heart.

Once she arrives in Honolulu, though, Sloane hopes that Hawaii might just be the escape she needs. With beach bonfires, old friends, exotic food, and the wonders of a waterproof cast, there’s no reason Sloane shouldn’t enjoy her summer. And when she meets Finn McAllister, the handsome son of a hotel magnate who doesn’t always play by the rules, she knows he’s the perfect distraction from everything that’s so wrong back home.

But it turns out a measly ocean isn’t nearly enough to stop all the emails, texts, and voicemails from her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend, desperate to explain away their betrayal. And as her casual connection with Finn grows deeper, Sloane’s carefree summer might not be as easy to find as she’d hoped. Weighing years of history with Mick and Tyler against their deception, and the delicate possibility of new love, Sloane must decide when to forgive, and when to live for herself.
